Description
Body length up to 35cm. The tail, which is not capable of catching or holding anything, gets as long as 35 to 42cm. Face, ears and breast are white with distinctive black areas from mouth and nose down to the tip of the tail. The upper head is black as well, back and lower extremities come in a shining orange. Lean slender figure, weight between 0,5 to 1,1kg. The subspecies Saimiri oerstedii citrinellus that lives in Costa Rica only is less intensive in colour.
There is only one young per birth, weight is about 100g. Sexual maturity will be reached at an age of 3 to 5 years life expectation is about 15 years. Saimiris live in groups up to a couple of hundreds of individuals. There is no social hierarchy; activities are limited to daylight. Omnivorous, but food mainly consists of fruits and insects however.
